Reevaluating Your Texas Life Insurance

10/7/2011 12:00:00 AM

It is important to keep in mind that life insurance is not static. Your life is always changing, and your Texas life insurance should be changing, too. Since you purchased your first policy, your life may have changed in ways that could affect your coverage. You may need more – or even less – coverage now than you did in the past. Take a look at the events below. If any of these have changed, you may need to reevaluate your life insurance policy!

- Family – For many, the main purpose of life insurance is to care for their family in the event of an untimely death. If you have a new addition to the family, or are caring for your elderly parents, you may need additional coverage.

- Heath – Examine the health of yourself and your family members. If someone has developed a health issue, you may need to adjust your coverage. If you have quit smoking, lost weight, or done other things to improve your health, check with your agent to see if you can lower your premium.

- Job – Have you lost your job or accepted a lower-paying position? Your current premium may no longer be affordable. Speak with your insurance agent to see what can be done to keep you at the same coverage with a more affordable price tag.

- Investments & Property – If you've recently purchased a home, a change in your insurance policy may be necessary to ensure that your family won’t lose the house in the event of a tragedy. Also take a good look at your debt – if it has recently increased or decreased, adjust your life insurance accordingly.

The best policy should provide the perfect amount of protection for you and your family. Set up a timeline with your agent that includes specified times to evaluate your Texas life insurance policy. The best peace of mind is always being prepared for the unexpected!
