Hurricane Sandy opened her giant eye on Oct. 22, 2012 and headed north
through the Caribbean toward New England. The largest Atlantic hurricane
on record and just the sixth to strike the northeast United States
since colonial days, Sandy left behind a path of destruction that took
until Halloween to finally end and will cost as much as $70 billion to
mend in America alone. All told, the cost across all borders is
estimated at more than $100 billion.
